Description

I dedicate this posting to one of the kindest Renderosians, Dave (Magnus073). In my region frost is often connected with the White Lady, mistress of the Dolomites, which are part of the eastern Alps. This image (with a bit of postwork) is taken from a fountain in Lyon, France. The Batholdi Fountain is one of the highlights of the Place des Terreaux. The sculptor of the fountain (1891) also created the Statue of Liberty in New York City. The fountain has a tremendous amount of detail and you can almost feel the four horses, which represent four rivers racing for the ocean, pulling a female figure's (France)chariot forward. It stirred my poetic bone and this is the result. Steed threatens steed, in high and boastful neighs (King Henry V by William Shakespeare) My Love is like to ice, and I to fire: How comes it then that this her cold so great Is not dissolved through my so hot desire, But harder grows the more I her entreat? Or how comes it that my exceeding heat Is not allayed by her heart-frozen cold, But that I burn much more in boiling sweat, And feel my flames augmented manifold? What more miraculous thing may be told, That fire, which all things melts, should harden ice, And ice, which is congeal'd with senseless cold, Should kindle fire by wonderful device? Such is the power of love in gentle mind, That it can alter all the course of kind. (Amoretti XXX: My Love is like to ice, and I to fire by Edmund Spenser) Thanks for your kind comments.

Stellar image! I love the colors and textures. Great post work. The frost and ice give this a rather apocalyptic feel.
