Description

MB3D / PSP Thank you for stopping for a closer look. Any and all comments are always welcome and appreciated. Today's post is the result of an experiment. As you lower the raystep setting on MB3D it helps clean up noise in your image. when you chose high quality it defaults to 0.25, but i tend to set it down to 0.02 instead with good result. I at times used 0.01 with good result but it takes longer to render. So the experiment was to try comparing raystep set at 0.01 and then set at 0.001. The results you see here with absolutly no postwork except name. Personally i like the one on the left better. I liked the glow around the sphere, but that glow is gone on the lower setting. The lower setting also increased render time from 15 minutes to just over 2 hours. My final impression is there is nothing to be gained from ever setting raystep any lower than 0.01. Len has mentioned other settings that can also help in cleaning up your render without overstepping the raystep. Have a great Monday and new week. Jim Yesterday's Image: thumb_2161309.jpg

Hmm, my copy of MB3D the default High setting is .09, actually the default Raystep for the Mid setting is .19 which is lower than your default High, that's weird I would have thought all defaults were created equal, guess not. Regardless, Raystep multiplier is critical for accuracy, the smaller the steps the less chance creating artifacts(noise) by overstepping any point in the Set during raysearch before reaching DE stop(end of search). Peace

Looks good, comparing the two I tend to like the left one. I've been experimenting with the same thing and it does get frustrating when it takes forever to render. Sometimes if a render takes that long just shut off your monitor and have a cold one.

They both look lovely but I would settle for the one on the left when it doesn't take so long to render. I hate waiting too long for fractals to render. I must admit the one on the right looks lovely and rich looking.

I too also like the one the left better with the glow. A 2 hr render time is not worth the result, then you have to put more time in postwork to add the glow back. Great experiment and work! :)

I agree with you. I like the glow around the sphere. Both are wonderful works!
