Description

Yesterday we saw a couple of guys heading south under the pier. This surfer has chosen to try the north side. What I like so much is that the colors of his board and wesuit are so bright against the pier.

I can't say I have ever seen a board this colour. It reminds me a Piet Mondrian painting. My latest board was hand-shaped by legendary old time surfer Nat Young. It has a big dinosaur on the deck too! Can you surf down through the columns of the pier. or is that a Wile. E Coyote idea!

Great POV and mood effects in this shot of the surfer, with his multicolored surfboard, venturing out between the piles and piles of pier pilings, Maz.

The colors are so the sharks don't mistake him for a Seal. :) Excellent capture!

Hey, how come nobody told me they made stained glass surfboards!? Well, maybe they don't, which is why no one told me they did. Oh well. At least I can pretend that's stained glass. The colors are amazing and I love the pattern. I can't remember the painter who did stuff like this, only on canvas rather than whatever surfboards are made out of. Fiberglass? Well, no matter, this is one of those shots that I like so much. You do these so well. I could easily see a whole series of these. Okay, now to the nitty-gritty part. I like these shots under the pier a lot, and I have to say that this one seems strangely mysterious. I know what's going on, but your POV and the contrast between color and darkness, and the strong verticals really imply a different sort of story, and that's just way cool! It's like you peeked in on something sacred. And from what I know of surfers' relationships to the sea, that's not too big a stretch; there does seem to be something sacred in the act of surfing...and you caught that so well here. This is one of those little marvels that pop up on occasion--usually during the middle of the week, and I love it. This rocks. I still think those supports look like trees of some rare breed, and I love the marks and irregularities, almost like bark--at the bottoms at least--and well...I think I'm going to have to visit a world with trees like that...or make one up. I wonder if it'll have surfers. Probably so. Cute ones, but then, aren't they all? And I have to also say that Carin and Bill gave me a good chuckle. I wonder if Bill found that recipe.
