Description
As this coming weekend is the R.S.P.B Big Garden Watch, I thought I'd get the ball rolling and attempt to get a half decent shot of the starlings as they feed. Most go out to the tables that are out back, but a few try to get the finches and tits to move over long enough to grab what they can. They have taken to roosting each night in the the meadow adjacent to where I live, but fortunately they spread themselves around quite a bit!
Last night it was reported that we've lost 70% of our starlings in some areas and that puts them firmly on the endangered list, so I for one am thankful to have so many around. I just have to up the amount of food I put out for the rest of the feathered inhabitants and time it just right!
Anyway, here's what I ended up with, taken from my bedroom window, and with enough twittering to gladden the heart of bird folk everywhere - from the starlings, not me...I don't twitter!! ^=^
Thank you for the faves and comments, ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

I love starlings. They're fairly common in Chicago and I get to see lots and lots of them in the spring and summer months. Them, and grackles...two of my favorite bird species; I like the way they sound, and they're quite smart. Yeah, okay, and they're rather urban...honestly, I think I saw one "flipping the bird" to a taxi cab last summer! As for this duo of shots. Yeah, this is quite a specimen you've captured. Really well done. I love the spotted pattern, and I can almost hear this little person's distinctive call. They don't sing so much as they announce. I love that! It shows they're not wimps. And they're such handsome birds.
