Description
Had the great opportunity to spend last week along the Mississippi River around Quincy Illinois, Montrose Iowa and the Canton Missouri area, with a great friend Manning, (Firesnuffer). I had a great time watching the Eagles. Sadly, I was disappointed with my photographic results, fighting very cold temperatures snow everyday and cloudy skies, well mostly cloudy skies that presented problems that I did a poor job combating with camera settings. Not to mention the forced shoots and the shoots when the Eagles were to far away for the lens that I have, I knew better just didn’t do better, LOL. Ok enough crying over spilt milk, as I said it was a great time watching and learning more about the habits of the Bold Eagle. Generally, I take these trips alone so to have some one there to share these magnificent birds with along with a few decent shots made the trip worth it. This shot is of a young probably around 5 years old Bold Eagle caught him/her as he/she was coming in for a landing in a near by tree.

How exciting. Shortly before I left Chicago for places far away, I'd heard of a nesting pair of bald eagles more toward Chicago than any had been seen, previously. I don't know if they're still there, but it's nice to know that Eagle-range has expanded and not diminished. And as for this shot, it's superb! I love the details and the expression on that gorgeous raptor's face. This is superb work.

It's a wonderful shot showing him/her breaking to land~ =D

Cool freeze shot of America's official bird, either colliding with the branches or coming in for a landing. Odd positioning for its left wing as opposed to the one on its right.

Sounds like a good trip. Isn't this a new avatar from your trip too? Everytime I go photographing something new, particularly if it moves, my first attempt is usually not up to my standards...so, here's to your next trip and results you'll be satisfied with.

I think considering what you described you got a very nice clear photo, sure maybe not what we all dream of that perfect shot but still, and I agree some times just to be there and have the experince and memory is almost as good as that' shot. I think I would photoshop this one and play with it a bit..maybe even just for fun, remove the branches and add a poem or title. I had a friend spot some bald eagles out near where I live in Tennessee but I have yet to ever see any in the wild.
