Description

No matter where a Welsh, Irish or Scots man or woman travels; no matter how far the distance twixt them and their country of birth; no matter the number of years since their feet trod the earth of that country, Wales, Ireland and Scotland remains 'Home'. There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that this fact, set in stone, is a Celtic thing! But that's a surface reason; just a small part of this trait we Celts share; another is our history and the unbelievable hardships suffered and endured by the folk of those 3 countries by, what was at the time, a common enemy and subjugator. This is now, for the most part, gone. But the Celts have long memories and a tradition of handing down from fathers to sons and daughters stories of days gone by. The stories relayed to me by my Grandfather of his days at the coalface are as clear to me today as they were when first imparted. The day he was trapped by an explosion and had to lose his leg or his life still elicits a quickened heartbeat when I think of it. I passed on these histories to my own children. I have been wanting - needing - to go back to Wales a lot of late. I feel the tug of Wales more and more each day. I shan't visit the cottage, nor even the village of my birth. That would just be silly. None of it will be the same as is in my mind and disappointment would ensue. No. I want to return to celebrate my Welshness! I want to be surrounded by the language still spoken by many, sit beside a Welsh stream and simply breath in the clear air. I need to go home....I need to see these flowers growing in their own soil. Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

Absoluetly beautiful! the light, clarity, color, all magnificient. Wanting to return home. Such a natural thing for those transplanted. I was born in New York, my family is from the south, and I've lived all over America. Like a lot of Americans, there's a feeling of rootlessness and wanting to belong somewhere. My family is originally from Ireland, and even though I've never actually been on Irish soil, the Celtic vibe must be strong because whenever I hear a U2 song, see a program about Ireland or anything thus related, I get a chill running through me and this tremendous, almost painful sense of longing. It may seem odd to you that an American would feel that way about a place he's never actually been, but I do believe in 'ethnic memory', and old souls moving through time and place to touch the living.

My friend, Pavl, in one of his odd rhapsodies (he has those on occasion) once declared that "home is where you can see the moon." Well, something like that: I took a wee bit of creative license, because I can't remember exactly how Pavl said it...well...with an accent, that's for sure, but that's all I really remember, aside from the gist of his statement. So yeah, I can completely sympathize with the urge to head home--to where the air smells right, or to where the moon is visible, except--of course--when it's not. And as for this shot, I love it; the rich and vibrant color really brightens the dull winter doldrums of Chicago... As for a trip to Wales. Yes!!! I actually want to go as well...mostly to visit a friend of mine I knew in Prague, and also to hop on a bus, or a train, headed for Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. There's something about the Welsh--or anybody who'd come up with a name that could easily fit within one of the alien societies I'm always writing about: I like that! Oh, and I shamelessly cheated here and didn't type a single letter appearing that epic poem pretending to be a mere name: I just used cut and paste, and laughed at the fact that spell check doesn't recognize the correct or incorrect spelling of, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Now, I only hope that Beth wasn't typing too fast and dropped a few letters out of the name. And now that I've yammered on forever, just for the excuse of pretending to type a really long and descriptive name, I'm going to shut up. Fantastic and evocative work here. I really like it a whole heck of a lot!

Enchanting image and words. I don't understand people who hate the countryside, peacefullness and the tranquility of a mountain stream.
