Description

Please excuse me while I rant It seems to me that common sense has died. I saw on TV the other night a news item, that a group of call centre’s were offering 200 job vacancies and that 1300 people had queued all day in the freezing cold just to get the chance of an interview. Our government says that it hopes that small enterprise will take up all of our unemployed. In the north east of England where I live 55,000 more people became unemployed in the last three months, the majority of them from small businesses going under. Local councils are to drop more than 200,000 jobs in the next four years, without cutting services, if you can believe that. Our politicians are embroiled in a big scandal about being caught with their hands in the expenses till, they have had to pay back hundreds of thousands of pounds, this is a criminal offence, yet only a couple of them are being prosecuted. Energy prices have more than doubled in the last five years and are expected to rise more than 40% in this year alone, old people have died from hypothermia. Fuel prices have risen by more than 40% in the last year but the tax on fuel is still more than 50% and the oil company’s profits are in the billions. Food prices have risen by more than 50% in the last two years. The words Food poverty are now being bandied about. Does that mean people are starving? In this country and in this day and age surely that is unthinkable? Our brightest most educated young people are emigrating in their droves. Our government is massively raising the cost of a university education. Maybe that is to stop our youth from obtaining the further education that they themselves had. The dumbing down of our society would be of great benefit to our present political powers. I wish that every time I have screwed up in my lifetime I could have received a couple of million pounds. Don’t be silly I hear you say. Why not! That’s what happens to bankers who very nearly bankrupt whole countries. They get huge bonuses. It would seem that greed has taken over from common sense and I shudder to think what the future holds for our up and coming generations. I think that if I were thirty years younger I would emigrate myself but I have had my time and retirement is just around the corner so I will be pleased to sit this one out. Just remember that whoever wins the rat race is still a RAT!! And Will the last person to leave the country please switch off the lights OK Rant over thank you for your time.

It's the same here in the Good 'Ole U.S of A...Common sense died here awhile ago...and the same can be said with respecting your elders...most don't anymore...I sat a day in jail once for putting my hands on a juvenile after the fact they just knocked down an elderly person(I would say he was about 80) because they were not willing to wait there turn in line...After the video tape was reviewed my case was dropped...The disrespecting teen thought he was going to walk out the store as know one said nothing...I was raised to respect my elders...bestowed it into my 3 sons and daughter and no way was this kid going to bask in what he did just to impress his few friends standing near by...After it happened I looked at my wife and said...no way...this isn't going to end this way...she respected my decision and whispered to me ...don't hurt him ...much...(smile)... I agree with all you said above...Most of everything we were raised to believe in is now on some kind of life support...It's sad ....Really it is...Ok ..my turn to jump down off my soap box..(smile)..

A great idea and a very nice render, and I have to say that I agree with almost all that you have written. However, since I'm a Scot, you probably would expect that anyway .. ;o) Warm regards, from a chilly, damp, lacking central heating and double glazing East End of Glasgow, John.

Sounds like my poor old USA, and the Sweden I've been living in for many years. What's happening to the western world? Who's behind all this nonsense? The indoctrinating effects (and goals) of a liberal-left news media for one. But the REAL problem is the universities (and, believe me, I'm of the sick-o academic world, so I know!) and the ivory tower professors who don't know a thing about the real world - only their theoretical utopian speculations. We need to close them down, and, perhaps in one or two generations time, common sense may have a revival. Photo? If not, a very well made image!

T totaly agree as someone who is tencnicly unemployed (I care for my disabled wife 24 /7/365 with no help} and yet there are people who are perfectly ok get loads and it self inflicted as well, and lets not forget the 120 BILLION yes BILLION in un paied taxs.that they can't be fussed to collect.who owes it guess?,but you won't need to. Ps lets not also forget the huge bones the MOD gave to there staff while a service person only gets an extra £13 a day for active service. As an ex serviceman my self that mkes my blood boil.BTW a great image an a very true sentiment.

You certainly are in the right - to rant. This whole busy business is such a shame, for many good people are going under. Do not worry, though; the change is coming, not only in egypt, and it will be not capitalism, not socialism, nothing known, just humanity... Hold on, look out, and keep up the good work... Greeting from Europe, CHR

I totally agree...we have the same problems and the same feelings here in France and the worst is, in my opinion, the fact that people seem ready to accept everything without reacting. Oh ! I forgot to say your image is top level.

What is the most uncommon element on the planet? Common sense!

18 years ago my car was stolen. I had 3rd party only insurance and it cost me £250 to fix (which was alot of money to me). They caught the guy who stole it and order him to pay me..... £75!!!! He paid me the first monthly installment of £6, then disappeared. I got a letter from the court to tell me this, along with an explanation that they weren't going to pursue him because... and i quote... "I didn't need the money"!!. So I agree common sense has died, I just think it died a long time ago, you just notice it more the older you get!!

Great image, don't know how I missed it! I believe there are and always will be people in power who operate from a standpoint of greed. It is up to all of us to recognize it and stamp it out whenever we can. It's good to rant, you find a lot of us that feel the same way, and that's what is needed, like-minded people.

it seems to be getting worse, there have always been thieves, but as of late, they seem much more open and blatant. And when politicians and bankers are in the front of the thieving line, we will go down the hole that much faster.

Unfortunately, I missed this powerful scene at the time you posted it. What is very sad for me to note is that after a year and a half, things are even worse then you describe so accurately. You can't even emigrate, all is the save everywhere. What is worse is that you can't even shame these people, they don't care what we think. I am afraid I feel quite hopeless about it all.
