Description
Thank you for stopping by.
Part of the Meet and Greet walking tour.
The largest Chinatown in the US, and also the oldest, San Francisco's Chinatown is full of secrets and back-alleys. Once notorious for gamblers and prostitutes. Today, these pedestrian-only passageways, at the heart of the Chinatown maze, is where you can find fortune cookies still made the old-fashioned way.

Hmm, this looks familiar. I must have been standing next to you when I shot it. That blue and gold sign is for the Lim Family Beneficent Association. But how did you get it with no people?

Hmm, this looks familiar. A very atmospheric image. But how did you get it without any people in it?

Fascinating that the buildings are much less tall here.

Very nice - it's been a decade or more since I visited San Francisco - your images make we want to come back.

Yes, the old fashioned way... a dozen tiny little feet stomp the dough until it ...oh, wait...that's grapes! right...wellllll... I have a similar shot but it will be weeks before I have time to post much from the trip... I just adored this part of town.

I would love to go wandering through here. I love cities with pedestrian-only areas like winding back alleys and a history of floozies and gamblers. History like that adds so much color to things! As for this shot, it's quite marvelous: easily one of my favorites, but then your gallery is full of stuff like this! I really like the shadows and the way they seem to define the colors more than the light does; it's a bit like you've walked into another sort of city, but then maybe you did. As Andrea noted, the buildings don't seem as tall here, and there is a timeless quality to this shot. Also, fortune cookies made in the old fashioned way...that's incredibly cool too, but weren't they, like Chop Suey, invented IN San Francisco? Ah...nothing like being at the source of history is there? This is really fantastic and I wish I'd been there too...perhaps, in time I'll hit the west coast...I've been threatening...um, I mean promising to for a long time now.
