Description

Hi folks! This freight ship here from Antwerpen, Belgium, is the greatest class of freight ships in Europe, simply called "Europa class". Ships of this class cannot pass the narrow channels, rivers and bridges in Berlin and eastern Germany, so I am astonished when I see something like that... The ship just has passed the bridge and the captain's cabin was put down; so in the moment the ship crawls blind, only with the radar and sonar up the Rhein. The cabin is down till the ship passes the next bridge far away, where a very sharp right curve begins. The right shore is only 50 meters beside, the streaming is low here and the ground with green grass is near..... The opposite side shows the old city core of Duesseldorf with its historic church and the "gate" at the far left side, the government seat of the province of "North Rhine Westfalia". The water level was acually 7,90 meters; the critical point is about 9,50 meters. Enough time to sleep well inside these old houses.... Thanks for your interest and for your comments for my older pics. Please feel free to send new one, every ctritics is wellcome. Have a nice day and take care. billcody

Amazing. I saw one of these whoppers when I visited Köln, back when I was too young to spell the name correctly. I'm always impressed by really large flying or floating things, especially cargo haulers; they always remind me of spaceships: the kind you'd see in some really gritty, hyper-realistic science fiction epic like Battlestar Galactica. But then, great science fiction always seems to nod its head to stuff like...well...big, ugly looking cargo carriers. This one isn't ugly though. It looks incredibly efficient! The POV for this shot is perfect, as is the composition. I'm anchored to the ship itself, but my eye wanders to the church steeple and the other buildings in the distance. This is a really great piece of work. Those cargo container/boxcar shapes add such nice color to a largely gray image. That's a nice bit of composition right there.
