Description
On this image you see a place near Heidelberg (Germany), called "Celebration Place". (earlier it was called "Thingstaette"). It was build in the thirties of the last century by the Nazis. After the 2. WW till into the seventies this place was rotting more and more. In the seventies it was rediscovered by the Hippies. They used it as a meeting place and there were from time to time free Rock and Blues concerts. In the eighties the city administration banned the concerts (too much drugs and garbage) and the place was restored. Now it is used for commercial events. Only one time a year 10.000 ore more young people come here together to celebrate Walpurgis Night (the night from 30. of April to 1. of May).
Thanks for looking.

Great picture! BTW: This place has a really fantasitc acoustics! You can stand on the stage (the place were Hendesse stands) and whisper and people in the last/highest sitting line will understand you so well as if you are sitting next to them.

Heidelberg, well worth the visit, as are most German cities. I can imagine how beautiful some of them must have been before they got bombed into the stoneage during the war.

Neat place and history story too... I'd love to see a 360 Panorama of this sometime! What is the Walpurgis Night? Noting the date, I was wondering if that was when they commemorate the burning of the Castle of Heidelburg?

It looks like a cool spot for a fun gathering. It reminds me of a place in Springfield,Mass. that was called Barney's Hill or Hippie Hill.It also had a similar history and a Masonic tomb/memorial nearby.
