Description

Where better to ask than you great photographers here on Renderosity.I am really eager to try out this old camera, but dont quite know where to start.Read a few tips on different sites, not very clear to be honest.Dont wish to sound daft....but I am looking for "start to finish" kind of help really.Get the idea of photo paper and carrier etc, dont really know how to focus ? and time and shutter speeds. Also,am I getting in to deep trying to develop ? Dont really know where to begin with that.I absolutley love the effect of these old photographs, and having the camera, would like to give it a go.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.Mag :)

Where is Ansel Adams when you need him?? lol wow I applaud what you are trying to do, I would for one read his biography its inspiring, all the equiptment he carried up to Yosemite alone is amazing. And I would also suggest going to a camera store the one I go to they offer classes and their knowledge is quite advanced they could at least lead in the direction of what to do. I've done the dark room and the developing film but its been years all the soulutions and pans, stop baths, the thrill of seeing your imagine appear the first time, now it just pops up on a computer screen what a different world.. best of luck to you.

I could help you with how to develop, but um, gee where to start. The camera is a tad before my time though! How many megapixals is it? ;) My suggestion would be to watch 'The Art Of Photography' on itunes by Ted Forbes. It is an amazing set of video podcasts that covers everything from processing in your own home made darkroom, to pinhole cameras and everything in between! It will really help you. Good luck! Andrew

When you figure out the speed of the film you decide to use, then carrying a small digital camera will help you determine the proper shutter speed and f-stop. Good luck and I hope you have lots of money! That shutter release is not original. Most of these used an air bulb so that air pressure released the shutter, minimizing shake. If you search on google with the name and model, you can probably get a PDF of the original manual. I did that for two old cameras of this type given to me.

You would want to put this on a tri-pod. Focus by moving the billows back or forward. Swings and Tilts will help reduce distortion if needed You will need a hand held exposure meter or take a meter reading thru another camera. Besure to use the correct ASA / DIM rating of the film you are using. The sheet film needs to be loaded in the dark. With all of your settings made, put the film plate on the back of the camera and pull out the plate that covers the film, make your exposure and replace the the plate to cover the film. I would have the film developed at a lab. Some scanners will let you scan negative film to digital. Your picture appears to be 5x7 sheet film carriage? The film size should be noted some where on the camera. If you email the manufacture, they may know where you can get a owners manual, or more information. You may find some books on Ebay on how to use a view camera?
