Description

The old hag of a witch couldn’t live much farther now. The first clue to her nearness was the flaming skulls on the long spikes that lit the final distance to her abode. Who else but Faldarin would use skulls, with flames coming out of the top of their heads, as torches? Barnalah wondered just whose skulls these were and just how did one procure a skull without the former owners dying first. Faldarin probably thought that this was a good use for human heads but Barnalah was equally sure that the people whom they were taken from would have thought it a real waste of a perfectly usable head (especially considering it was their own) . Try as she might her eyes couldn't penetrate the mist that hung heavily between the old hag's hovel and herself. She would have to keep traveling to actually see the evil witch's home but for now she would take a final rest before continuing, not only to rest and regain her strength (for she had been traveling for 2 days at a fast pace), she also wanted to consolidate a plan for when she did arrive. She was not at all sure what kind of welcome an unbidden guest might receive and she wanted to have multiple plans for as many contingencies as was possible. Faldarin was, after all, a very powerful witch. She was also not known for her friendliness for strangers. Barnalah made herself a small meal and sat down next to the tree (imagine that... spare skulls for the spikes piled next to that very same tree) and tried to concentrate on some kind of plan. Strange it was, however, that she felt slightly dizzy and was finding it hard to focus her mind on her plotting and planning, no matter how hard she tried. One thing was becoming more obvious as she sat there under that weird looking tree, the witch knew she was coming and was, perhaps, quite a bit more prepared for Barnalah than Barnalah was for her. This was not going at all like she would have liked it to have gone so far. Oh well ! There was nothing to be done for it now except to travel on. That and PRAY to her Goddess that she survive this encounter.

Well, I hope this one does better than my last one.. still haven't figured out why my last one had such a bad effect but maybe it just happens sometimes.. 4 comments and less than 100 views is not what I am used to... Maybe everyone went on hiatus at the same time....hehehehe... what else can one do but just take it with a little humor.. otherwise it might be a slight bit disheartening.... anyway... hope somebody likes this one..... gene

It's the little touches that I like. Like the texture on the sole of her left boot and the positioning of her feet among those wonderful mossy rocks. The metal textures are great too. Excellent work.
