Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.

This may be my favorite of all your winter shoreline photos. I love how the ice-pack looks like a series of waves frozen in the act of crashing back and forth along the shore. That your story is as intense as I would imagine that cold wind from the lake is an added bonus we all appreciate from you. The world always seems a bit different after we've seen it through your eyes. Someday I hope I get the chance to sit with you around a fire late at night, drinking something ancient like mead or such, swapping stories. Although I suspect, I'd probably just sit and listen to you tell your stories because you tell them so well.

Beautiful and with the music and your words, epic.

This is so surreal to me, an alien landscape in limited colors, standing there as if it made sense to someone. I love the idea of ice over water, of leaving something to freeze and have it never be found again. Here, if you put something on the ice or snow, you'll just have to pick it up again when the weather warms up in a couple of days. Walnuts sinking to the bottom of the lake in the spring thaw ... what a fantastic image! Thanks for sharing this ...

Eerie shot Chip - beautiful but eeerie in that snow and ice bound way that the lakefront can look at the height of winter....I especialy like the sky, did you do postwork on that? Love the narrative and song choice

Yes, that is cold. The sensation of cold just seems to ooze off the image and into my room. Funny how some photos are able to do that. I suspect it is a kind of flash back effect. The colours and shapes trigger a natural response to the environment as if we were actually there. Like a premonition perhaps. Or and instinctive response to prepare our bodies for the natural onslaught that must be near at hand. Holoda must be preparing himself for a similar shock. Maybe one of culture, maybe something different altogether. Departure from the familiar into the unknown, he must prepare mentally for the the radical change in his life.

Wonderful moody shot, if very cold looking - brrr!

This was nearly a month ago now, and I'm still cold! Great shot! I wonder how this must look to someone from a warmer climate? Anyway, a wonderful, moody pic, and fantastic writing as usual!
