Description

I was amazed to find a pond full of these hyacinth when I pulled off the highway to get the snaps of the flamingos a while back. Surprised as they are barely visible from the road yet cover the water. I know they are a curse as once they are established in a river or dam, they take over. All watersport at Hartbeespoort Dam was clogged for years by these beauties. Have a great weekend - I will! Clive

What an absolutely gorgeous blossom! The colors are so delicate. Too bad they're so invasive. I've seen a program on public television about water hyacinth in Africa.

What a fantastic shot! I LOVE water hyacinths. We had some in our koi pond a while back and yes, they do spread! I had heard that they are the favorite food of the manatees and they help keep some of the waterways a bit less clogged.
