Description

Tempests are rare here in the summer. This one came in August, 2007. Here's the wreck of the French tanker washed ashore by the town of Tuapse, the Russia's Black Sea coast, in the mid-60s. The rest of her has been cut and sold as scrap metal while the power end still remains a great challenge to scrap-metal hunters. Thank you so much for your interest in my works. Nikolay

Judging from the photo, I think the amount of risk far exceeds the reward of salvaging scrap metal. Interesting shot! Thanks for sharing.

It looks like a medieval fortress in ruins and being pummelled in a snow storm.

This is an amazing capture! In some ways it looks otherworldly, and in other ways completely haunting, but clearly a part of this world. I love the activity of the turbulent waves, crashing and shattering. When I think of scrap metal scavengers, I think of a lot of the guys that share a particular truck yard I've seen a bit too much of. There's always that bit of metallic challenge, and I'm sure that metal scavengers the world over all possess the same, predatory intincts (metal hunting is a venerable human tradition, after all) and it's only a matter of time before somebody with nicotine-stained fingertips figures out a way to get what metal remains there. It might take a while, but it's usually a guy with nicotine-stained fingers that has that has what I've come to call a metal-harvester's epiphany. In that case, I'm doubly glad you captured this. It quite stunning.

This caught my eyes immediately. So beautiful a catastriphy can be!! Love the soft sepia tones.
