Description

Non mi ero accorto di aver raggiunto quota 500 , grazie alla cara amica Marcia Gomes che me lo ha fatto notare nel suo commento ! I did not realize he had reached 500, thanks to my dear friend Marcia Gomes, who has pointed out in his comment! The Basilica of the Sacred Heart ( French- Basilique du SacreCoeur) is a Catholic basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart, located in Paris. The basilica is located at the top of the butte Montmartre (Montmartre Hill), the highest point in Paris. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_del_Sacro_Cuore Source construction The basilica is located at the top of the butte Montmartre (Montmartre Hill), the highest point in Paris. The original idea of building a church dedicated to the Sacred Heart developed in France after the Franco-Prussian War (1870). The building was decreed by a vote of the National Assembly July 23, 1873 after the defeat of 1871 to "atone for the crimes of the Communards', and also to pay homage to the memory of many French citizens died during the war. Architect Paul Abadie designed the basilica after winning a competition against 77 other architects, but he died in 1884, and then other architects continued the work. The first stone was laid June 16, 1875, but the church was completed in 1914 and consecrated in 1919, after the end of the First World War, which ironically was seen by many French as a revenge victory against Germany in the Franco- Prussian. The building Very controversial, because of its dell'abbagliante white marble, not least of its forms and its considerable symbolic meaning of "purification" after the blasphemous "Paris Commune", this is one of the most visited monument in Paris. The basilica has the shape of a Greek cross, adorned with four domes, the central dome, 80 meters high, is topped by a skylight, formed by a colonnade. The eclectic style of the Basilica is inspired by Roman and Byzantine architecture, especially the Cathedral Saint-Front in Périgueux and other religious buildings of the twentieth century (Basilica Sainte-Thérèse of Lisieux, for example). Inside, the apse is decorated with one of the largest mosaics in the world, covering an area of 475 m²: the Sacred Heart of Jesus is glorified by the Catholic Church and France. At the base you can read a Latin phrase meaning "In the Sacred Heart of Jesus, France fervent penitent and grateful." Many elements of the basilica are based on nationalistic elements: the portico, with its three arches, is decorated with two statues of French saints: Joan of Arc and Louis IX, both executed in bronze by Lefebvre. The Shrine of the Sacred Heart is made of a white stone quarried in Château-Landon, a stone that is resistant to pollution. This ensures the basilica a dazzling white that makes the shrine even more visible from a distance (also because it stands on Montmartre, the highest hill between those that surround the Cité in Paris). The basilica complex includes a garden for meditation. The dome is open to tourists and offers a spectacular panoramic view of the city, which stretches south of the basilica. Inside the sanctuary is also a wonderful organ Aristide Cavaillé-Coll built in 1898, and amended by Mutin, one of the most magnificent of Paris. Good evening and good week Thanks for the comments and the favourites of previous image
