Description

Howler monkeys occur throughout Central and Northern South America, but black howlers are an endangered species and exist only in Belize. In 1985 a group of local farmers were organised to help preserve the black howler and protect its habitats by harmonising its needs with their own. Care is taken to leave the forest along the banks of the Belize River where the black howler feeds, sleeps, and - at dawn and dusk - howls loudly, in its natural state. This picture was taken in the 'Bermudian Landing Community Baboon Sanctuary' on 3 December 2010. There are no baboons in Belize but the locals call the howler that, Sig... Zoom will show more detail in the face!

I love the lighting combined with this low down POV. Man it's good to know people still care for animals endangered by humans encroaching all the time. Good to see you are still posting :)
