The aging, unwell Elf King feels that his days are short. Contemplating his life, he frets about leaving the kingdom in the hands of his eldest son, Kyle, who does not possess the personality nor the more important character traits to rule. Immature, selfish and irresponsible, his eldest son lusts for his father's position not for the good he could do, but for the personal rewards the position would give him. The old king thinks that perhaps he could send Kyle on a very, very long, and maybe even a little dangerous, journey and quickly install his more capable, younger son, Geoff, as co-regent before the quickly approaching inevitable shows its face.
