Description

Hoarse, booming drums of the regiment, Little souls who thirst for fight, These men were born to drill and die. The unexplained glory flies above them. Great is the battle-god, great, and his kingdom-- A field where a thousand corpses lie. -Excerpt from War Is Kind by Stephen Crane This is a revision of the image I posted a few weeks ago titled Sword and Shadow. After posting it the first time I realized it still needed work.I felt an axe was better than a sword for the sake of composition, so I got rid of the sword and replaced it with the axe, I also revised everything but the face. I rendered most of the image using a hard round and soft round brush. The axe was created using custom brushes as well as the hard round and hard round airbrush. The software I used was Photoshop CS3 with Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.

Usually sequels are not as good as the original, but yes, my friend, this is even better, and the axe does give it a better compositional balance. It is nice that you took the time and extra effort to polish the first offering. That shows dedication. Bravo. Warm regards, from a very wet Glasgow, John.

Thank you mistressotdark, maferro, A_Sunbeam, jgkane, jgkane, and alessimarco. I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment, especially since this was a revision. I am very glad the axe works better for composition jgkane, I was hoping it would. I really should have seen what it needed before I posed it the first time, but I guess better late than never? Thanks again guys! I get more feedback here at Renderosity than any other forum/gallery site, and I cant express how grateful I am, the community here (all of you) are the best!

thank you SIGMAWORLD, thank you zhaanman, I am really glad you like the glimmer zhaanman, I was not sure if that would push it over the top or not, I hoped a faint glow would work though, thank you for affirming that.
