Description

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards (Album of the year) Arcade Fire The Montreal band Arcade Fire has concluded his evening by winning the prestigious album of the year. The group was competing against Eminem in this category (Recovery), Lady Antebellum (Need You Now), Lady GaGa (The Fame Monster) and Katy Perry (Teenage Dreams). Earlier in the evening as the best alternative album, where his opus The Suburbs was nominated, was instead awarded to the band The Black Keys, for her album Brothers. These same Black Keys were then placed his hand on the Grammy awarded for best rock performance by a duo or group with their song "Tighten Up, who beat Ready To Start, Arcade Fire. In addition, the gala off the air has been good for other Canadian artists. Michael Bublé won the Grammy awarded for traditional pop vocal album of the year, while Neil Young has won one for best rock song with Angry World. Arcade Fire is an indie rock band based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band consists of the husband and wife duo of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, along with Will Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, Jeremy Gara, and Sarah Neufeld. The band plays guitar, drums, bass guitar, piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, xylophone, glockenspiel, keyboard, French horn, accordion, harp, mandolin and hurdy-gurdy. The band takes most of their instruments on tour, and the multi-instrumentalist band members switch instrumental duties throughout their shows. On May 27, 2010 it was announced that a new double-sided 12" single would be released the same day, with the full album, called The Suburbs, to be released on August 2 in the UK and on August 3 in the US and Canada thanks to Merge Records. The album is produced by Markus Dravs, who worked on previous album, 2007's Neon Bible and was engineered by Marcus Paquin, who has also previously worked with the band. A track-by-track review ahead of The Suburbs release by The Quietus website said, “The progression is similar to the one William Blake takes us through in Songs of Innocence and Experience that suggests forward momentum and maturity.” The album was released with eight different covers. Design, Caroline Robert. Photos, Gabriel Jones. Synchronised Artwork by Vincent Morissette. The first show announced was Oxegen 2010 which took place in Ireland in July. The band announced that they will play songs from the new album in their headline performance at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2010, with Win Butler noting "We're really looking forward to playing the new songs live... [it's] like an inventor emerging from his basement after a year's work." In July 2010, Arcade Fire announced they would be broadcasting their August 5 concert at Madison Square Garden live via YouTube. They later announced the video would be directed by Terry Gilliam. The Suburbs was released worldwide at the start of August 2010 to extensive critical acclaim comparable to Funeral and Neon Bible. During the 2010 tour Arcade Fire are giving a tribute to Jay Reatard performing the cover of "Oh, It's Such a Shame". Win Butler confessed to Zane Lowe that the band wanted Jay Reatard to support the band on this tour but he unfortunately passed away. The Suburbs went on to debut at number one in the US (on the Billboard 200), selling 156,000 units in its first week. It was also number one in the UK and Canada. In August 2010, Arcade Fire and Google released an interactive music video CLIC VIDEO HERE , written and directed by Chris Milk, which allows you to enter the address where you grew up and the video is then geopersonalised. This video utilizes the band's song "We Used To Wait" off The Suburbs and showcases capabilities of HTML5 and Google's Chrome browser. On November 13, 2010, Arcade Fire made their second appearance on Saturday Night Live, performing "We Used to Wait" and "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)". Thanks Magik

sounds like you're into this group... Never heard of them - lol... It's a personal preference - I like 80s music, obviously so does the "ga ga" - she trys her damndest to sing like my favorite female vocalist Madonna, but I just don't like it... It's like when Bruce Lee died and you had all these movies coming out saying the real Bruce Li was in it - I'm happy for you, that a bad you like did excellent... I tried to watch the Grammy's last night. I wanted to see Mick Jagger and Striesand.... Mnm was on, shortly after that I fell asleep, woke up when Barbara was singing Evergreen - damn, she still looks good at 68!!! from what I seen of the Grammys, It just seems like giving out awards to C- artists.... I want the Stones, Def Leppard, U2, Bon jovi, Billy Idol, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Scorpions, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Phil Collin, Prince, Kiss, Garth Brooks, John Denver,...damn, this list could go on and on... yeah, I'm stuck in the 80s = best music of all time - WITH OUT A DOUBT - shame most of the groups of this era didn't learn from it.

Really nice work and I love the writeup. I love it when musicians decide to actually get creative with what we'd accept as music and decide to use instruments OTHER than the usual rock and roll ensemble of stringed things. Really marvelous work on multiple levels.
