Description

A texturing study mainly, this started with the Poser bullfrog from 9MBI (a new site to me, but with lots of interesting Poser stuff). Actually you could call this picture a sort of Vue special effects galore :) I've used: - Subsurface scattering (SSS) for the frog (and a little reflectivity), also a reflection map for the eyes. - SSS and displacement mapping for the lilypads. - My iridescence highlight metanode for the dragonfly's wings. - Depth-of-Field ("cheating" though, and made it in Photoshop with the z-channel as source). The iridescence on the wings doesn't look as good as in this picture but that only shows that the effect is working, and reacts to the light angle, and due to the rest of the composition and my intentions I couldn't just move the sunlight around untill the effect was maximal/optimal. thumb_2128705.jpg Vue 8.4 Complete render. Frog from 9MBI, waterlilies from DAZ (KenG), dragonfly from CP, reeds in the background by me (C3D). DOF, colour/levels corrections, framing & signature with Photoshop. Thanks for viewing - comments always welcome and appreciated. Have a nice day - Lars

this is a phenomenal image. the SSS on the frog is especially impressive. the frog's specular is a little softer than what i'd expect in that setting, so it looks very moist rather than wet. i think the dragonfly wings work well, actually, even though the effect isn't as ephemeral looking as in the other image. i personally find the blow out on the flowers a bit much, and they look paper thin, which i figure is a limitation of the mesh. i think the lilypads came out very well, as did the focal blur effect. if you're just discovering 9mbi, you should know they have frequent extreme sales.

Amazing reality! I really thought it was a photo. The frog is the best I've ever seen and your dragonfly wings are so beautiful. A very fine piece of art indeed.
