Hi, my name is Kim. My husband, Frank (ddaydreams) and I live in the Eastern Sierras, California, USA. We started out working with graphic programs like CoralDraw and Bryce. Mostly with digital artwork. I enjoyed making fractals and incorporating them with other programs, then I started adding artwork to some old photos I had. I use to be more into photography years ago, but never had the money (or time) to pursue it for more then a casual hobby. When the digital cameras became a little more affordable and we saw the ease of use and the things we could accomplish with our graphics programs...... well there you have it! One day Frank said "you ought to post one of your pictures at Renderosity" and the rest is history! Now we have artwork and photos in local galleries, a couple calendars out there, and we are even thinking about publishing a book!
And I have to give most of the credit to all the wonderful friends I have met right here on Renderosity!!!! Everyone has been so helpful and encouraging!!!
Thank you for viewing my gallery and check back often to see what progress we are making.

It's definitely an improvement. It looks a lot sharper with its improved mid-tone contrast. Another good time to use the RAW mode might be when the scene's overall contrast is too high. Sounds good for all sorts of occasions! Thanks for the side-by-side comparison, it illustrates your point quite well.

I definitely make it a rule to play with camera settings as much as possible, and to tweak photos as much as fun allows, and so I totally agree with your encouragement to play around with RAW camera settings and such. As for the shots themselves, the details that you can bring out are quite startling, and I love the overall composition of both shots...well...the original shot and it's tweaked twin; I love it when I see something like this and it inspires me to go out and do stuff. Well done! And yeah, this is a perfect illustration of your point.

Very well done, thanks for the info!

You always inspire me to shoot RAW...I think about it and then get a bit aggravated that Adobe's CS4 doesn't recognize my Olympus E-30 bought in May 2009...CS5 does but I haven't sprung for that update yet. But your comparison makes your point perfectly. One of these days:)

I love the comparison. It certainly makes a big difference!

Nice comparison you are talking to the converted, I shoot RAW all the time this gives me the chance to work on it before converting to JPG or TIF then you can work on It more in Photoshop or whatever you use.

I love shooting in RAW but I find it a bit of a pain to be able to only open the images in Photoshop... Great comparison and a huge difference!

Very good comparison and explanation. The result is excellent, as you can see on the right picture. A beautiful shot.

Now that I have a camera capable of such I will give it a go. This is a great comparison!
