Description

All I know about this hornet is that it was dead. I placed it on the top of a wooden pole at eye level to get this shot. I was amazed by the sting - not one I would like to have penetrating my skin in anger! Clive

Hornets and any other members of the wasp family are immensely interesting, and thankfully I can say I've never been stung. It's interesting the pose this one assumed in death, and it's intriguing that the stinger was fully extended. What a find. Great capture.
