Description

I have received a number of questions about Florida condo living. I promised you an aerial view of where we live. This is our condominium complex. There are 44 buildings and 1,408 actual condo units. Our home is marked in yellow (lower left side). The brown line in the upper left is our main entrance where there are two gates. One gate is for residences and we can open that gate with a clicker, something like a garage door opener. The other gate has a security guard to let in guests, deliveries, landscapers etc. Our children and friends have ID cards and can pass through the security gate with no questions asked. There is a similar brown mark (lower right) that allows anyone to leave but only residents with clickers can enter through that gate. No security guard there. The security measures are not because we live in a bad area but more of a containment issue. Everyone is over 55 years old and wants to retire away from the hustle and bustle of open traditional neighborhoods. Do keep in mind that there are 30 to 50 story condo buildings all over Florida that just do not have the open space and relaxed living that we have chosen. The staggered look of our building, gives us windows on all sides where the large rectangular buildings are three stories and only have windows in the front and back. The blue line on the north, east and south are canals that are full of water. The green line to the west is a utility right of way that is fenced off and we (the condo association) have planted a 12 foot (3.7 meter) high fichus hedge to hide the ugly chain link fence. The areas outlined in orange are our 9 lakes. The pink block is the two story clubhouse with auditorium, library, movie theatre, gym, meeting rooms, card rooms, billiards room, arts/crafts studio and management offices. The light blue areas are pools and the green squares are tennis courts. I hope that this sheds some light on our south Florida lifestyles. This photo came from the Palm Beach County water department. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Most Interesting and enlightening Dana..Though for me I couldn't take the enclosed feel/claustrophobic...It just sounds to complicated though safe I'm sure..For me a log cabin in the middle of 20 acres of woodlands would be my ideal retirement location..no gates/beepers/clickers/neighbors....just quite...of course a few birds and woodland creatures would be exceptable..(smiles)...

Thank you for the highly detailed information and staggering aerial photo of your condominium complex, Dana. It looks like the pattern on a quilt or tapestry. Your 44 buildings and 1,408 units dwarfs my 71 unit complex, size wise.
