Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

What a shot! The POV is what makes this. I'm always amazed when people say Chicago is such a clean city. What parts of the city are they looking at: certainly not the parts where people actually live. I love the colors in this, and I suspect this image has a lot of what is technically known as curb appeal. This is a doozy of a good shot.

Great capture of an urban scene!

I'm sure this is a sad reality in far to many places, even in the parks around where I live people abuse the privilege of use there as well, sad eye opener of reality, an excellent capture!

I can just see you taking this shot!! I didn't know sidewalks and curbs were what change alleys to streets. The things I learn here!!

Corey, looks like you were laying in the street to shoot this. Are you up to this kind of thing already? This is your old ma speaking. It looks cold and wet. Take care of yourself. Love the POV, but take care of your repaired heart please. Love you

I didn't know that about curbs and sidewalks and alleys, either! Two seconds worth of thought makes it obvious, but only because you've pointed it out! :P LOVE the pov! (I'm not worried about you getting down on your belly in a wet gutter ... you seem a bit more practical than that, so I'm thinking you just leaned over, lined up your camera, and shot a few frames!)

HA! I am sure you have a good large display in your camera! What a fun shot-- and yes... even out here in the country you can find a mess. We have a neighbour who didnt move one bit of the mess he got after the storm more than a month ago. Alot of his belongings are spread all over his big garden and up to the road. It looks like a storm had been there... oh...well, there was- LOL !
