------------- The Raptors – Immortal of the Brunnen Daerth
Xavier and Nimrod had just arrived in New Calladon minutes after Illnimaren and the newly named Brunnen Daerth had departed for the far reaches of the Western UnderDark. While they were known to Maellasia and her staff and required new identifies, no one knew of the off-worlder Xavier or his Dwarven companion, Nimrod. However, a human and a mountain dwarf would never fit in as part of the Brunnen Daerth. So Xavier became a Drow WarMage and Nimrod, his crazed Derro slave manservant. Their backgrounds weren’t elaborate. Lady Ann let them fill in the details with pieces of their own lives. Then she whisked them away to a spot in New Calladon where they could find one of the teleporters, the one that Aahz had fallen prey to not four days past. Once through the teleporter and down into the deep, dank, hateful halls of Old Calladon, they were quickly captured by the forces of Maellasia, questioned and trussed up in spider webbing. Fortunately, as neither of them had any armor, Lady Ann had placed her personal Devral’s Mage Armor spells on them both. Not only could the stingers of the Drovik Hunting spiders not penetrate their hides, most of the swords of the Drow wouldn’t either.
Xavier went on to hone his fighting skills in the days to come, and his sage knowledge proved invaluable. For while the Night Raptors had been adventuring in Old Calladon, falling into on plot after another in their quest to uncover the truth behind Lolth’s apparent return from oblivion and the intentions of the SK Drow, he had been studying in the libraries of Kar’Dhaer, piecing together the legend behind the Codex of Lhaegen’dirik and the nature of the artifacts that would bring the Spider Queen back from the dead.
Xavier had a great affinity for finding such secrets, secrets long lost, for he himself was such a thing. None suspected his true identity. None could fathom why a Sage, a bookworm as they knew him, would throw himself so fully into battle, nor how he could ever have learned the mysteries of the Mempomasters. And none of them would ever guess that he was over 20,000 years old.
