Description

Even a dark chapter in history at that time. The Catholic Church forbade the dissection of corpses. As long affected the science. After the Reformation there were circles of curious scientists to unravel the mystery of human anatomy. The weeping woman on the edge, the widow of the man on the table. She cries, but has laid the purse in her hand, which she received for the sale of the corpse. But what should a poor, poor widow? The image is based on the Rembrandt painting "The Anatomy of Dr. Tulp " Only the widow 's story comes from my sick imagination ... Thank you for looking and comments^^ Better look in fullsize^^

I remember reading something about this. I guess they had to learn someway. Many just used to bleed the sick people which cost even more lives. Excellent work! (:

Well if they had not done this back then, medicine would not be what it is today. Greusome as it sounds. Excellent interrputation of Rembrandts image.

a place where this was done was called Theater Anatomicum There is still such a builing in my city. On the inside modern now.. for meetings but on the outside you can recognize it clearly Very high windows (that was not common in NL) and they start at about 2m05 from the ground so much light inside, but hard to look inside by ordinary people walking in the street. Of course I can imagine the kids sitting on eachothers shoulders or standing on boxes.

Wow, gruesome scene but I think depicts a quite real scenario including the widow. Superb composition and lighting. Excellent work indeed.

Absolut klasse Szene. Die Anfänge der Pathologie. Die Kleidung, das Handbuch, die Frau im Hintergrund (ich glaube Übelkeit erkennen zu können) und der Schatten vom Fensterkreuz....alles ganz feine Detail. Saubere Arbeit!! 10+
