Description

Milky Eagle Owl These are the largest and heaviest African owl and are widely distributed throughout Africa, except for the desert regions it is also known as the Giant Eagle Owl. They are powerful hunters, capable of killing hares, hyraxes, hedgehogs and guinea fowl and even vervet monkeys! They crush the skulls with a grip stronger than any dog! They also eat moths, bats and small birds which are delicately taken from the air. Sometimes they nest in hollow trees but more often take over the nests of hawks and eagles. They have unusual pink eyelids are caused by a lack of feathers. These change in colour when not in breeding condition, and are a creamy colour from which it gets the more common name.
