Description
The Carnival Miracle is 959 feet (292.5 meters) long and 199.5 feet (60.8 meters) high from keel to the top of the mast. Part of the length is a bulbous bow that looks like a protruding bulb, at the bow (or front), of a ship, just below the waterline. The bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability. Large ships with bulbous bows generally have a 12 to 15 percent better fuel efficiency than similar vessels without them. Some warships specialized for anti-submarine warfare use a specifically shaped bulb as a hydrodynamic housing for a sonar transducer, which resembles a bulbous bow but does not have the benefits of the bulbous bow configuration. The sonar domes are a power navigational tool to prevent hitting a reefs or other underwater obstructions. I my opinion, this is a sonar dome since it doesn’t spread out like a bulbous bow.
