Description
A sailor and his girlfriend share one last kiss before he goes aboard the USS Midway and sails off over the horizon.
Really, the statute is a tribute to Alfred Eisenstaedt's iconic photo of the celebration in New York City's Time Square on August 14, 1945 - VJ Day.
The USS Midway joined the fleet in 1945 and served with distinction until retiring in 1992. She was moved to San Diego in 2004 and become a museum where people can get a taste of life aboard a US Navy ship and learn the Midway's history. She also had a great collection of historic planes and helicopters.
Incidentally - I posted several shots from inside the Midway about a year ago.
