@mmitchell, heres how i made the image. tied 4/5 incense sticks together to get large density of smoke, shot against a black background with 2 modelling lights, with homemade cardboard snoots to direct the light with a flashgun and diffuser globe behind the black cloth to spread the light. for editing, stick it in Pshop and invert the colours, you have to use a high fstop to get the details, but you have to flood the area with light.
