Description

From the archive of battles that never happened... Operation Kon was concieved by the IJN in mid-1944, - a series of increasingly desperate attempts to get reinforcements to their beleagured garrison on Biak, in what had been Dutch New Guinea (modern West Papua). While the Battle for Normandy raged on the other side of the world, General Macarthur's progress west along the New Guinea coast threatened to remove Biak's valuable airfields from participating in a long planned IJN counterattack. The first two delivery attempts were driven off by air reconnaisance and the intervention of the Allied cruiser-destroyer screen around Biak. But the third force, built around the monster-battleships Yamato and Musashi, was formulated to wipe out Macarthur's tiny navy once and for all. The final Kon force was at sea, without air support, when word came that Saipan was now under attack, which of course changed everything. We can only speculate what might have happened to the carrier-less Kon battlegroup when New Guinea-based Liberators found it. Prince of Wales and Repulse 2.0 perhaps??? Neiwill's B24J rendered in Carrara 7. The Yamato model came ages ago as a sample with Shade 7LE.
