Description
This is a rather simple little pic, nothing very fancy about it. But, there is a story, that some of you may recognize. The younger viewers my even see there parents. The, Boomer Generation. According to tabloids and various media this generation is well off. They are retired or will be shortly to places like Sunny Ville, own big boats, even vineyards The fallacy goes on and on, but is far from reality.
This couple possibly two professionals acquired this beautiful home in the late 1960’s (rather upper middle class for it’s time). The pool in particular was the talk of the neighborhood. They worked hard long hours, raised a family, and life was good.
Time passed, the children married and left home.
Time Passes. !
The day came, retirement, full of promise, some fun years, years to travel, enjoy there company, find peace in there lives.
Time Passes !
The great house is in need of repairs, the roof leaks, when the spring rain storms come.
That pool is still operational, but never used, it’s there for esthetics more than anything else. It’s in dire need of a new filtration system. The concrete structure is cracking and showing it’s age.
The trees need trimming.
Time Passes!
There ill now this wonder couple. Live on a fixed income. Very little money left in the bank account. A few recessions, the high price of oil, and gasoline, food medicine, has dwindled there retirement savings.
Sell the house you might say ! Well the housing market is in shambles, plus the house is in need of very costly repairs which they cannot afford.
Also a small thing, you see, it’s there home where they raised a family, the place is full of great memories. Besides they are a proud couple accustomed to there independence. A small thing ?
Time Passes !
No happy or said ending to this little story as yet.
You see it’s still being written…………………………………………..

Fantastic image George, as the story behind it makes it one to ponder. This is so often the case, and the best a lot of people can do now is to try and hold on.

superb looking bryce work George, like the pool and house.

A very well done render and story that I can relate to even though I am a few years older than the boomers!

There are so many things I could add to this story, being that my honey 'n' I are also from the 'never grow up' generation, but I'm not much for airing those things in 'public.' Love what you've done here though! Excellent work! (:

well i tell you what: most of the people we knew in the urbanization we lived before, are older than we are. they all have big houses with 2 or 3 floors and a lot of stairs, and the time and years passes we where never able to afford the luxury so we went with baking small breads, and in the end we where able to sell at a decent price to buy an attic/penthouse. our friends from before are still living on that mountain paying lots of money to maintain the gardens of more than a 1000 square meters.(you have to hire gardeners if you are not able anymore or you just leave it and loose even more money) we lost some money when we sold but we are now in a comfortable place dont even use the car often. what i wanted to say is when young dont buy too big, because you are getting old time passes, and the children to be frank are sh..on your house they want only the money,so dont build a house for the kids, build a house where you can raise the kids and VERY IMPORTANT:that you can afford to stay after they go, because thats what the young birds do they fly out of the nest and build their own one.

Well well what a story line from you very well put indeed I always try to buy only what I need most young people buy what they want and years later they do get lost in a large payment $2100 a month and they end up with nothing 10 years ago it was as it is now a buyers market, we picked our house up for next to nothing yes it old,but it's ours and cute and I love it : Great words of wisdom although wasted on the youth great render !~~

A gripping scene. Truly a sad state of affairs. I'm afraid a dilemma not easily remedied. You have stated so beautifully and perfectly what many (too many) people are living through. I hope for a happy ending as I always do.

Excellent image ol Man. Great observation about the current state of affairs. And that's just the tip of the iceburg.. Wondering if I will be able to live on my retirement pay.. like 20 years from now. Will they cut off my Social Security at 80? I've no kids to fall back on. Bit scary. Best wishes from Dave :^)

I think you have told the story of so many all around us our families our neighbors, co-workers so many are struggling just to make it, I feel sorry for those with medical issues that cannot afford proper care or medication. I think we all need to lower our standards just a bit, yes we should be happy and have nice things if we work hard for them but sometimes I wonder at the current economy but you still see lines of folks at drive throughs or buying the latest and greatest big screen TV's. Nice work Geore I hope all is well with you.

A very beautiful composition! This place looks so relaxing and peaceful! I love the realism here in your artwork! Great caption as well, leaving one to think and ponder even more about the setting! Very creative!
Radar_rad-dude
An excellent render to accompany your very valid observations on the sad state of affairs for the up and coming baby boomers, (myself included). I recently was forced into retirement at my former job and now must try to live on very limited resources. And, my story is, as you say, 'still being written....' Thanks for sharing! Great job!
