Description

These creatures sold by pet stores are not poison! Their diet in the wild includes insects that eat certain plants, that in turn make the Poison Arrow Frogs poisonous. In captivity, their meals do not include these insects, let alone those plants that the insects eat. Thus, that particular cycle is broken. These guys are very small, about 20mm (less than an inch). What they lack in size, they more than make up for in brilliant colors. This one is radiant blue and black. His "friend" is yellow and black (to be shown next, just for color). These frogs can be handled just as you'd handle any other, safely by hand, with attention to their delicate bone structure. They make fairly hardy pets. The frog is naked, but I don't think that will bother anyone. (I hope!) ;D Thank you for the look, and especially any comments you make. A hearty Thank You to all who have favorited me or my gallery postings. I'd like to give thanks to the people at No Limit Exotic Pets, in Portland, Oregon, for letting me take these photographs!

'These creatures sold by pet stores are not poison'. 'These frogs can be handled just as you'd handle any other'. Ok so both these statements need huge MAYBE's added to them. It's important to note that domestic frogs sold by pet stores can still be deadly. How, because you don't know what the previous owner fed them or if they were caught in the wild. A guy I know became very ill after handling a domestic Columbian PDF. These guys can retain their toxicity for a long period of time, even if their diet has now totally changed in captivity. He didn't die, but for a while there he wished he did! Great shot though!

@Blinkings: I am so sorry for your friend! I handled the ones at No Limit, and experienced no side effects. I guess it all boils down to the "pedigree" of the frog, and the reputation of the store. Thanks all, for the comments!
