Description

Walking in the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, west of Delray Beach, Florida. Saw a female Anhinga sitting in a nest but didn’t notice any chicks. A few minutes later we had one of Floridas famous 3 minute thunder storms. Glancing back at the nest, Mother Anhinga was spreading her wings to protect her new chicks from the pouring rain. Zoom is a must here, to see one of the chicks, looking out from under Moms right wing. Anhingas are close relatives to Cormorants, except the Anhinga has a straight pointed bill and the Cormorant has a hooked bill. Anhingas are about 35 inches (89 cm) long and a wing span of 45 inches (114 cm). Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Mother love for sure in this super shot, Dana. Never heard of the Anhinga species before but you caught her vivid patterns and textures, amidst the bramble of branches and twigs, right on in this one.
