Description
About a hundred years ago I took my old Nikons to Waverley Abbey in the southeast of England. It was an abandoned ruin then, and probably still is. I printed the photos, partially solarising them and sepia tinting. For those of you who are too young to recognise solarisation as anything but an obscure PS filter, it has to be done in darkness and involves bits of cardboard and some noxious chemicals that turn your trousers brown.
This isn't that photo – in the end it wasn't very good. But the ruined cathedral at C3D reminded me of it immediately. The Vue 8 b&w render has been reworked in places – mostly just smudging around the unduly sharp edges, and then numerous filters applied, mostly OptikVerve. The filters, apart from a touch of solarisation and sepia, were primarily to make the stones a bit more skeletal and eroded in texture, as if they've worn back from a cement mortar. Plus a bit of fur enhancement. All the lurvly planty things are pretty much straight out of the C3D store.
I sold the Nikons to buy a fancy electronic camera. Haven't taken a decent photo since. Must be a lesson in there somewhere. Happy Tuesday!

This is great! You've really captured the magical feel of these ruined buildings. Haven't been to any down South - furthest we've ventured that way was Hailes Abbey in Oxfordshire. Excellent recreation and loving the humour :)

It is a great picture, as it is. Still why not colors? skeletal and eroded could be done with a hypertexture mat.
