Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

These must be food for those robins and woodpeckers, super shot.

They are busy going about their business in that way they have which doesn't include any reference to us. I like that. I am still burning wood as the nights are chilly, so am constantly on the lookout for these people so as not to incinerate them!

Great shot, I love how well you caught the rich colors to really emphasize these amazing things. The more I see and learn about them, the more I understand your fascination with them. That and these are great inspirations for my own efforts at creating very different space ships that I used to make.

When I first saw the title, I admit thinking more along the shrimp or lobster type of crustacean, but these little guys do have their charms, although I won't be testing their charms on my dinner plate any time soon. Wonderful shot!

I love the way you've made them glow with a rich, somehow brown, light. Gorgeous!

Always a nice change of pace to see some of your wood "bugs". Sorry Chip but I have trouble using the word "lice" for thise cute and harmless little greatures. Nice color tones and clarity. Dana

I was working in my sister's yard the other day and found this very dead, VERY amazingly blue iridescent beetle. Of course, I thought of you right away and was going to get my camera. But I forgot, and the poor guy went into the compost!! You always make these critters look SO good!!

You made me reminisce about last summer as I read your words, as I clearly recall the phase you refer to, so I've spent a little time reflecting this morning. The rich textures and colour palette in your image are somehow nostalgic of the same period, maybe because you posted several captures of these beauties at the time. Great shot, and thanks for the reminder!

Alas, the last woodpecker I saw was nearly 16 years ago working at Erindale College in Mississauga. The poor fellow had mistaken a concrete pillar for a tree. After discovering his/her mistake, he/she contritely flew back to the nearby nature preserve. Here in Ontario, it is the Cardinals (I called them 'Red Jays' when I was little) that signify the coming of spring. They begin to appear just after Groundhog Day, vibrant streaks of red against the white-gray tundra that is Canada in February. And then they do their business on your... well you get the picture. I love the clarity of this picture as I can well imagine how close one would need to get to take it. It is a shame really, these little fellows may well fall prey to the woodpeckers of which you speak.

Great image. Yes, spring is near.
