Description
Love it, hate it; comment, rate it...
At the summit of Pikes Peak, Colorado, USA.
The cog train is still in operation, summers only...
-This view is missed by 95%+ of visitors due to the building touching
my back that some idiot erected on the east side of the summit...
Honored with a "Last Week in the Gallery, no. 12, 2011" pick for this image... see the rest...

Today is the second time the thought "It's all downhill from here." has crossed my mind concerning this image....
The first was as I stood at the edge next to the buffers.

I see that it is a cog railway, probably similar to those in the Swiss mountains. This is a lovely shot but I would prefer the buffers to be about a hundred yards further back!!

Check out that UFO off in the distance! Even the alien visitors love Pikes Peak. I love Colorado. I used to get Gem Smoky Quartz and Topaz crystals at Devils Head outside Sedalia and arrowheads from the area adjacent to the north shore of Elevenmile Reservoir and Petrified Dinosaur bone and petrified wood from Fourmile Creek North of Canon City, and petrified wood all around Spinney Mtn. Reservoir. Alabaster for carving came from the back side of Kissing Camels rock in Garden of the Gods and colorful jasper from the Paint Mine area on the way to Calhan. Also Septarian Concretions from Pueblo Reservoir.
