Was just reading that the best animal shots show their eyes...and I assume up close. This has the eyes and is a shot with deer-personality.

That is a terrific shot. I remember a dear (with her offspring) jumped out of the woods one time in front of my car (I had been stopped for a while at the side of the road, so not to worry). She was truly surprised and amazed to see me sitting there when she looked around to her side. Then I heard a loud grunt and the two vanishes in a wush.
