Description
They were sturdy sea boats, born from the design of the fishing vessel used in the harsh North Sea. As ships went you either hated them or loved them as they were squat, ugly & looked like someone dumped a wheelhouse and gun on a bathtub, yet they could turn on a dime and were with out question the nemesis of the U-Boat.
They did convoy duty in the Atlantic, seeking out submarines, their sonar huts sending the insidious " ping " out into the cold dark depths of the ocean in hopes of a return signal detecting a submarine. Once found the game was on. Sometimes they worked in concert with each other, one "pinging" the sub while one dropped the depth charges. They would deliver the " over & under " punch. Depth charges would be set go off deeper under the sub while others would be set off in water above the sub the effect being the ones above would explode driving the sub down then the deeper ones would explode breaking her back. Sonar operators could hear the death throes of the stricken sub as it slowly sank into the dark depths breaking up under the intense pressure. Over 32,000 men in the U-Boat arm of the German Navy lost their lives in this method of sea warfare.
The model here depicted is that of H.M.C.S. Snowberry. The H.M.C.S. on the cap tally meant Her Majesty's Canadian Ship and proudly worn. It was for some young wags back in those dark days of WW2 that the H.M.C.S held a very different and more pleasant meanings in that it also translated into....Hold. Me. Close. Sweetheart.......winks.....much thanks for the peek.

Beautiful photo and background of a nice model of an effective work-horse. I wish I had the model, but can't afford it money-wise or space-wise. Airfix had a really nice idea when they made this model kit. I do hope they come out with others like it. Good work on the model! Any chance of seeing more photos of this beauty? Keep up the good work! :-)
