Description

Well this is the final version. It's a lot different than I had in mind at first. The bugler was originally the focus, but after doing each character separately, I decided I liked the "John Wayne" figure (always planned to be the trailing figure) to be the foremost positioned character. This led to him being more of the focus than the others. I think the gun smoke came out ok for the rifleman on the right. Still not sure about the gun smoke for the pistol. The dust trails built-up quickly for each horse to the point much of the scene was gone! I had to redo it and cut down on the dust. I just need to remember that "less is more". :) Thanks for looking. As always, any comments and suggestions are very welcome. Did some post work in Photoshop (dust trails, gun smoke, grass, motion blur, mountains in background). Props used: adh3d-adHorse DAZPeople-blMilMan_m4b adh3d-UScavalry Pack Ajax-Dystopia-DysDome Fuseling-The Fuseling Grounds-IFg_earth1 Pete-Questor Firearms-Army uv Traveler-Tr_Rock7_001 RuntimeDNA-Traveler-Tr_Rock7_006 RuntimeDNA-Traveler-Tr_Trunk02 The John Wayne face is a head morph from WERTS at ShareCG. Once again, it's really nice work and will be using WERTS' head morphs again.

It's been a blast watching this image progress. I can tell a lot of work and thought went into the composition. I think your self valuation is dead-on: The rifle smoke is spot-on and the pistol smoke is a bit off. The dust is about the right amount (yeah, "less is more" until we start talking about money or beer). Had you considered making the top of the dust more yellow (as though it were picking up light)? That could have added a little more color diversity to the left of the image. This is a GREAT picture -- thanks so much for your hard work and for sharing it.

Thanks again for the feedback, mmitchell_houston. I see what you mean about framing in the earlier renders. I never did think about adding light to the dust, but now I am. :) I think it will help.
