Description

A former wood/furniture factory (1880's) has been transformed into appartments in the (very) late 1990's. For about 12 years people are living there. It is the large building on the left. They use to make planes there and parts of the (interior of) the Peace Palace in The Hague, 1913 (Now part of the United Nations). Factories were often build along the canals. And thanks to these factories not all of the canals were closed (replaced by roads). It's great that the building got a new function. The smaller buildings are also 19th century. This street (kay) is called "buitenom" (meaning something like 'the d-tour' or "going far around the city center", either walking or with the boat) The green light posts were also made in The Hague. At the Enthoven Factory. You see them everywere in old towns and villages in the Netherlands. Under the bridge a swan is coming my way.. soon it will share the canals with boats again

This is a wonderful photo Chris, and I also think it is great that they converted the buildings to serve a new function and provide housing for so many.
