Description

Last November I went to a rural village nearby to attend a wedding. I set up my smaller tripod and took a snapshot of myself under this gateway. The image is a bit grainy because it was getting dark, and I did not have the time I needed to make necessary adjustments so I could take several shots. I would have posted one of the others I had taken with me and the six girls who asked me to attend this affair, but those images were even worse, and I could not get one with no one under the gateway because this is the alley everyone walked down to get to the wedding reception. I find this design to be very attractive and often overlooked, especially by the younger Chinese. With their new "Super Hooches" as we would call large living quarters in the Army, the designs resemble something more from Europe than China. A sad fact of life in China is the Architecture the Far East is famous for, is quickly disappearing. I understand their desire for modernity, and the need to save space by going upward, but I think it is sad to see their Design Architects, chuck to the rubbish heap designs which should be emulated, incorporated, and celebrated, instead of being despised.

Great shot Joe and a change to see one of these gateways in not such a pristine condition but rather weathered.

Great shot. Those electric wires are rather conveniently located.

Wonderful capture, Joe. I think it is the same throughout the world that the old is just that and needs to be discarded.

I like the entrance.... Something about Westernization that lures people to do funny things...

Nice image, and I very much agree with you, once we've torned down all the pieces that make upour towns and cities and make them unique, and modernize them, then what do we have a lot of glass and steel, not too exciting in my opinion either. Nice capture, your shirt fits in there very well. :)

Joe, one day the Old Designs will be "in" and Retro Style will rule. You can still find log cabins in the US and Canada (abbeit modernized on the inside). Love the arch.
