WMG Part 6: Concurrent Sessions--Panels ... to the first concurrent session of the day. This one's a panel discussion entitled "Mastering Technobabble: Three Different Philosophies." The moderator is beginning her prepared remarks, but there seems to be some dissention on the panel .... ... which brings me to the tensions in musedom that I alluded to earlier. These philosophical disagreements tend to be reflected in the wardrobe of the participants. The radical faction, who believes muses need to not only embrace technology but also completely different ways of inspiring humans, tend to dress in a way that reflects the genre or area they represent. Hence the muse in scifi armor. The more conservative muses, who are resistant to "all those new-fangled ideas," tend to dress ultra-classically like the muse at the far right. The "Modern Muses" like Nera are squarely in the middle; their dress may be classically inspired but it is definitely more contemporary as are their views on how muses should go about their business. And what do The Original Nine think of all this? Well, although they're a little more sympathetic to the conservatives, overall that have little patience with either of the two ends of the spectrum. As far as they are concerned, it's all superficial posturing that gets in the way of doing what muses do, which is to inspire humans' creative instincts. Nera will be attending more sessions throughout the day. Once they are finished she will be more than ready to attend ...
