Description

I watched as the tug & barge left for the last time, it's muddy gray cargo safely in the holds of the barge as she backed away from the dredge, made a slow tight turn and headed our into the harbor bay, then down the eastern gap to that return point about 5 mile out, opened the silt barges hold and dumped its cargo to the bottom of the lake and make her way home again to start the process all over again in some other part of the harbor. It's an ongoing process this dredging. The currents, tides and eddies warp & weft the sands and accumulated muck of the lake bed over the years always find the passage of least resistance and bring it back into the confines of the harbor and all its nooks and crannies around the harbor. The reason for the dredging is so that the bigger ships can berth freely with out finding their bottoms being kissed by the silt & mud to come an go freely. It's one of those jobs tat for the most part is taken for granted, but in many case if it were not done on a regular basis then perhaps we would miss out on something like food, or clothing or other essentials to our daily lives........thanks for the peek
