Description

A flood in 1886 destroyed the original falls on the Wichita River for which the city was named. After nearly 100 years of visitors wanting to visit the non-existent falls, the city built an artificial waterfall beside the river in Lucy Park. The recreated falls are 54 feet (16 m) high and recirculates at 3,500 gallons per minute. They are visible to south-bound traffic on Interstate 44. to tell the truth I wondered for years about the name.I had seen this falls several times but was always in a hurry to go home.finally I asked someone how to get there even though it is very visible.turns out one must make a 2 u turns to reach the falls thanks for stopping and all comments are welcomed

The Great Falls of the Pastaic and the Little Falls of the Pastaic in New Jersey locate early industry in America and the eventual bankrupcy of Colt. To really understand my comment you need to research the land ownership of Daniel Boone and the power of the banks of Virginia. An amzingly thorough piece of puzzle solving here.

Great capture Richard. For a man made fall these are rather impressive. Having to make 2 U turns means you are right back where you started from.

I didn't know that but should have figured there were "Falls" somewhere somewhen. Never knew there was a Wichita River either... but shoulda known having lived in the area where there was Wichita everywhere. =) Lovely shot capturing the full falls~ I am wondering that since they are man-made why is the water muddy? Imitating the real river maybe? Have a wonderful Sunday~
