Description

I spend time today to learn how works caustics and flares in C8 pro. I used only custom HDR Light Map for the lighting and actually no specular channel but replace it with reflections only . All objects are standard 3D models from the C8P content , I just adjust the right materials for my test. Rendered on BEST setting using GI with sky light and indirect light . To create the porcelain surface I used glass node and changed the color to slight bluish , and the same with coffee just to dark brown with less reflections .. I was very much surprised that the heavy glass balls created the caustics from the HDR Light map in a very interesting effect .. bellow the main image are the images with different light power and gamma .. zoom in for better resolution.. I hope you like Cath

Thank you Thelby, the caustics bounce back and forward because of the reflective surface of the floor creating unusual beautiful effect , I did not expected myself, because on a regular floor it was looking just regular.. all FX was rendered in Carrara ..

Looks excellent! I'd be interested in knowing what your photons and idl settings were for this. I think it's about time I dragged out C8P again, I've been neglecting it.

Yeah looks like magic he he @Madbat I used Photon count 20.000 and filter size around 5% for this one , how higher %-age of the filter size how more compact and closer to the object the caustics , higher filter size lower effect.. for example diamond will have around 1 % of the filter size , and regular water around 10-15 , minder reflecting transparent objects have bigger filter size and vice versa , the intensity of total caustics as usual 100%, it works different way on a plain plane and different on reflecting one , the light flares was home video , the lights intensity was 0% and only HDRI light map on 125%, I was very much surprised , that the caustics was created just from the HDR Light map , my next test will be carrara amazing hair , and forget about poser , waste of time , you can create so amazing stuff in so simple way in Carrara having direct access to poser library so you don;t miss any stuff plus render your stuff so quick with limited need for any post work, I am sold even as a newbie in C8 Pro

Awesome job - once you get sucked into Carrara it makes going back to Poser hard...

Very nice work, I always though specular light source was needed to create this effect.

Gorgeous effects! And all versions look beautiful. I'm curious as to what changes from image to image. Is it just the quantity of Sky Light, or different Indirect Light intensity as well? But it's also a great illustration of how much difference lighting makes, the moods of all the images is totally different! Beautifully done.

Great and really interesting image, I recently work in a kind of similar image and didn't get the caustics... This morning after seeing your image I experimented more and I find, it's so logical, to get caustic you need to have the sky light enable and low or no brightness ambient light. Thanks a lot, your image help me a lot...
