Description

The Canadian Goose, (Branta Canadensis) was introduced to New Zealand as a gift from US President Theodore Roosevelt. With no natural predators here they have multiplied and are often considered a pest due to their tendency to flock and foul pastureland. We see and hear them daily from our house beside the Avon River in Christchurch and they certainly can make a mess of the riverbank. Gorgeous image, mate! Know what you mean about the bloody birds, too. I'm a Canadian, and those blasted geese are a HUGE problem here. Noisy, obnoxious, messy and they breed like rabbits. All of which is very un-Canadian, by the way. They are good eating, BTW, so that may be your solution: hunting season with no limit. Just remember to use steel shot, not lead.
