Description

Slot machines have been a mainstay of the gambling industry in Nevada for decades. Once they had slots where the player fed a coin in and then pulled a lever to start three reels decorated with symbols and pictures of fruit spinning - when they stopped the player would win, or more often lose, based on the comhinations of symbols that showed. These were the legendary "One Armed Bandits". Payouts were alway in coins and I can remember the delightful sounds of coins clattering to the payout trays and the clanging of jackpot bells - what an atmosphere. The casinos even provided stacks of cardboard buckets to carry your hoard of coins to the cashier to exchange for paper money. Those One Armed Bandits are all but gone. Today most machines have no lever to pull, just a series of buttons to push; and there is no coin slot - just a place to feed in your dollar bills, and there are no payout trays or coins to exchange; when you want to quit you push yet another button and the machine prints you a voucher that you take to the cashier or feed into an ATM like machine that pays you. Even the jackpot bells are quieter now. These machines are a bit of a throw back because the have physcial reels. Most machines now use a video screens. By the way these machines were in the Bellagio Casino. Enjoy

Great shot. Yeah, there are very few casinos which still have these. When I was back home last August, the El Cortez on Fremont Street still had penny slot machines.

Excellent photo! And it explains why I don't go back anymore. I liked the real coins (for me, the 25ยข machines) and the noise and buckets full of quarters, changing it into paper money and so forth. That was part of the entertainment of Las Vegas, and they blew it as far as I am concerned!

Ooh yes! And I was just grappling with the idea of coming to a place like this just a few days ago! A wonderful, bright capture of these red hot machines! I'm always in awe with the colour and the radiance..... seems like there is so much going on, and yet one one person in sight! :) Beautifully taken!

Excellent lighting,POV and capture! :) Another reason why people are getting fat there. Not enough exercise at the machines. ;D

Sort of takes the fun out of it doesn't it, I remember those cardboard buckets and how your fingers would get all black from feeding the coins haha I guess I haven't been in awhile last time I was there yes you could feed in bills but it also still dispensed the coins ... hate that they have changed all that. I remember we would save up our quarters and even nickles to take with us back then

That is a rare sight Dennis and surprised that you found any at the newer Bellagio. I miss the sounds and coins. Super shot. I remember when you couldn't get into a casino with a camera. Part of the "what happens in Vegas - stays in Vegas" old rules. Dana
