Description
My goal today was to see with my own eyes what remained of the Glenrowan Inn. It was here, on the 26th of June 1880, the famous Bush Ranger Ned Kelly made his final stand. It began with the 'bailing up' of the town, an extended gun battle with the Victoria Police and ended with Ned Kelly being wounded and captured. It was the one and only place where Ned wore the iconic armour. Even though the Inn was less than 2 years old, police set fire to it in order to flush Kelly out. It burned to the ground. Ned was famously hanged in Melbourne for his 'crimes'. Ive always been fascinated by Kelly's exploits for a number of reasons. One of which is that he is a distant relative of mine! A fact that my Grandmother was bitterly ashamed of, but all these years later, seems rather innocuous to me!
After driving for hours through the bush, I came to the tiny town of Glenrowan. Armed with the address of the famous Inn, I eagerly made my way to the site. It wasn't hard to find - there was a huge replica sign hanging in front of where the building once stood! Below are a few old images I found of the Inn online.

I think I must be one of about 3 people in America who saw the fairly dreadful Mick Jagger film version of Mr.Kelly's life. So, I had certainly heard of him ,but had no idea he was such an iconic figure in Australian history. Fascinating story and a wonderful shot.
